It is the third large-scale demonstration called by dozens of civic, social and left-wing organizations against the regional government of the right-wing People’s Party after the serious crisis caused by the natural disaster.
The organizers demanded truth, justice and reparation for the victims of Valencia and denounced “the inactivity, lack of responsibility and management” of the regional authorities.
Several tractors opened the protest on behalf of farmers and ranchers who saw their farms razed to the ground, while participants shouted “Resignation!” and “Mazón, to prison!”
In addition to the 80,000 participants of this Sunday, the previous demonstrations brought together on 9 November 130,000 people and on 30 of the same month almost 100,000, according to official data from the representation of the Spanish government in the Valencian region.
Alexandra Uste, one of the spokesmen, recalled while calling for the demonstration last week that “thousands of families do not celebrate Christmas like the rest” and has encouraged the Valencian society to go out into the streets “for all those who can not”, claiming that “the people who have lost everything need to find in Valencian citizenship empathy that there is no government”.
Among the main criticisms, Used has pointed out that “the streets are still muddy” and has denounced the lack of clarity of the autonomous government, whom they criticize for giving “a different vision” every time “speaks the president”.
